The beautiful, sprawling 16th century Spanish colonial
hacienda in Xochimilco, and former home of businesswoman
Dolores Olmedo, became a museum in 1994. Mrs. Olmedo’s
intention was to publicly display her private art collection,
mostly devoted to Mexican artists Diego Rivera and his wife
Frida Kahlo, who are both regarded as being major influences
on the art world. Tin fact, the world’s most important collec-
tions of works by Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo are housed
here permanently, adored by the legions of fans that flock to
admire them.
Mrs. Olmedo must have really admired her enigmatic hairless
Xoloiztcuintle dogs, a unique Precolumbian breed. These hair-
less canines were once raised for food by the ancient Aztecs.
