Chapter 25
1. After Sohrab's suicide attempt via cutting his wrists, he is rushed to hospital by Amir. Due to losing a lot of blood, things don't look too positive for Sohrab, but just like many others in a time of crisis, Amir drops down to his knees and prays to god - first time in 15 years, for a miracle.
2. Sohrab tells Amir he is "tired of everything", showing the true extent of his broken spirits and heart - he needs a saving grace before it is too late.
3. They move him to San Francisco in search for a better life for him . At first he is very closed off and rarely speaks, Soraya loses hope in terms of connecting with him, while Amir won't give up. He truly cares about the boy, this is summoned up in the scene when the General comes for dinner, but during discussion he refers to Sohrab as “Hazara boy”. Offended by this, Amir outright tells him never to mention that word in his presence again, this shows his love and loyalty for the boy.
4. Amir and Soraya decide to take up volunteering roles on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan, in the hope of raising money for an Hospital there.
5. Out in a rain soaked gathering in the park by all the local Afghans, Amir and Sohrab bond over flying kits, giving him slight hope about their future together.
Key Themes
The key theme of forgiveness rears its head again, as Amir contemplates his new life with Sorab and Soraya. “not with the fanfare of epiphany, but with pain gathering its things, packing up, and slipping away unannounced in the middle of the night.” This shows that he is beginning to forgive himself, but not completely. this is not the end of his road to forgiveness and redemption, but merely the beginning as he feels he still has a long way to go.
