Martin embodies Manon very well with her use of sophisticated language choices, as well as adapting the vocabulary from 1828. There are certain phrases that are no longer used, as well as the sentence structure. ‘Manon are you feeling unwell dear?’ - Aunt Lelia. Although it is not as obvious as Sarah’s voice, the phrasing would probably look less formal nowadays and looking something like this: ‘Aren’t you feeling well?’. It is subtle, but for that reason the character become obvious, despite few descriptions made by Manon. Every assumption to each character’s voice is concluded by the reader through Martin’s writing.

The writing is consistent throughout and is loyal to each character, there are no sudden changes to character personality and no lapses in their voices.
