A typical left-wing vs right wing civil war. On July 18, 1936, the Spanish Civil War begins as a revolt by right-wing Spanish military officers in Spanish Morocco and spreads to mainland Spain. The refugees went as far as Belgium, Netherlands, France and even Britain, seeking refuge to avoid persecution for left wing ideals. Many treked through the high mountain passes of the Pyrenees to find this refuge in France assuming they would find them welcoming of their similar beliefs.
