Katharine Whitehorn , was born in 1928 of which she studied her degree for ''journalism'' at Newham College , Cambridge. Her article that was published in The Observer Titled ''Sluts I'' created a minor sensation when it was published as it was supposed to have changed the perspective of the word ''slut''.

The Article

The origins of the word ''slut'' came from Samuel Pepys in 1664 : ''Our little girl Susan is a most admirable slut , and pleases us mightily , doing more service than both the others and deserves wages better'' At the time when Pepys wrote this it was a description as a ''messy , dirty , untidy woman'' whereas nowadays it has become a connotation for ''woman with loose sexual morals''. In 19th century England , the word retained it's original meaning as even garbage holes were referred to as ''slut holes''.
