SOLVING ISSUES WITH MY GARMENT

How could you fix this garment?

The main issues with this garment were the flimsy material and a snap in the zip meaning you are unable to do it up.

The polyester for this garment is likely to obtained from China as this is one of the biggest producers of this material. The garment would then be manufactured in Romania as this will not cost the company much because of cheap labour and transportation.

If I was to make this garment again I would firstly choose a different material as all though polyester is not as expensive it can be a bit flimsy and easily tears. Maybe even a polyester mix such as polyester jersey would be more durable and prevent rips.

An alternative to changing the material would be to have a lining in the garment to thicken the fabric. However, this would add to the cost as you would be using more materials and would make the garment more complexed.

To solve the issue with the broken zip, I would consider choosing a higher quality zip, but again this could add to the production cost.

Another way to fix this issue would be to choose a different type of fastening such as buttons, but this might make production of the garment more complexed meaning it would take longer to produce.

What quality control issues are there?

There could also be quality control issues with this garment. For example the black lace and the black trousers might not match in colour if they are obtained from different sources. So you would need to ensure both suppliers had fabric swatches of the colour.

Another problem is all 5 components arriving on time. To solve this you could locate the suppliers close to the manufacturers to save time. Or you could also simplify the garment by removing the lace details and waist tie or making it all one colour.

How effective are my solutions?

I think my most effective solution was to change the material because although this may cost more it will prevent the garment tearing. Meaning there will be less customers returning faulty items. Also changing the material won’t make the garment more complexed like adding a lining would.

I think the most effective choice for the broken zip would be to choose a better quality zip as using buttons instead would just over complicate the production and could lead to more quality control issues.
