THE VENUE We were looking for somewhere small , local and that had late availability . Initially we were looking in January to book for March for our 20th year of being together ( although that became clear it was a bit ambitious !). The Barn only had a few limited dates one of which was 18th December and it couldn ’ t have been more perfect ; Christmas is my favourite time of the year and a December wedding had always been a dream . It was the perfect venue for us as it was close by , we could have full venue hire for the whole day and it wasn ’ t too big . I was a huge fan of the wooden beams in the restaurant and Philippe and Janet were so helpful that it all just felt perfect .
THE CEREMONY Our registrar Dorothy was lovely and quite humorous so our ceremony was full of love and laughter which seemed so fitting as laughter is a huge part of our relationship . I think my favourite part has to be when we were finally pronounced husband and wife .
THE FOOD I loved that at The Barn we were able to offer our guests up to four different options for each course meaning there really was something for everyone . The food was delicious and went down so well with all our guests . As for the cake , I decided to make it myself . As we only wanted something simple it seemed like a good idea when planning ! We had a three tiered cake which consisted of vanilla , chocolate and lemon tiers that were covered in vanilla butter cream and decorated with faux eucalyptus and pine cones . Although the making and decorating went well ( with the added help of my bridesmaids ) it was not the most relaxing day before the wedding ! I was super proud though when it all came together .
THE DÉCOR As soon as we decided on a December wedding the theme had to be snowy , sparkly and Christmassy . We had ‘ snowy ’ jars with candles , pine cones and wood slices . We also had crackers as name places which all included a tree decoration .
THE FLOWERS The lovely Alice from Peonies from Pluto did our wedding flowers and she absolutely nailed them , they were stunning . Our arrangements were filled with white and green flowers , with pine cones added to make them super christmassy . My bouquet included pine , eucalyptus , snowy tipped pine cones , a selection of white flowers including roses and it even included a snowy tipped succulent .
THE PERSONAL TOUCHES I love making things and being creative so I made a lot of the decorations myself , I saved the jars and decorated them , I made the crackers and the mini tree decorations inside them too . I think that ’ s why I decided to make the cake myself , I love it !
THE PHOTOGRAPHY Our wedding photographer was Helen England ; I went through the list of recommended photographers from The Barn , checking out all their websites . Helen ’ s photography stood out and she was definitely a firm favourite but I picked a couple that I liked and emailed for more information . Helen was very prompt in her reply and we arranged a meeting to discuss our wedding . From the moment we met Helen I knew she was the right photographer for us - she listened to what we wanted and also showed us ideas from her previous weddings at The Barn . Her enthusiasm was infectious and it was absolutely clear that she loved what she did .
THE HIGHLIGHT I loved the whole day , being able to share it with our loved ones and our boys was really special . All the little moments that made up the day were so amazing .
