TASTE THE RAINBOW

THIS SEASON COCKTAILS ARE TAKING ON JEWELLED TONES AND VIBRANT HUES

If you ’ re looking to toast your nuptials with something a little more vibrant than red or white wine , then enter this season ’ s drinks trend - the colourful cocktail . From ruby reds to pastel pinks and everything in between , now ’ s your chance to serve up a spectrum to delight your guests .

GOING ROUGE It might not be a shade you want too close to your wedding dress , but no drink signifies love better than a red cocktail , and with so many options to choose from , there ’ s bound to be a tipple to please all tastes .
The classic Cosmopolitan ( vodka , triple sec , cranberry juice and freshly squeezed lime juice ) is simple , delicious and stylish , or for a real winter warmer you could try a Yule Mule - a twist on the classic Moscow Mule combining cranberries , lime , ginger beer and vodka .
ALL OUT ORANGE For an orange drink you know your guests will love , you can ’ t beat an Aperol Spritz . But , if you ’ re tying the knot in the winter and want something a little more warming , then try an orange Old Fashioned , which takes whisky , a slice of orange peel and sugar but adds extra orange flavour with the addition of orange Angostura bitters in place of traditional bitters .
SUNSHINE SIPPERS While a lot of yellow cocktails are traditionally associated with beach bars and sunnier climes , there are plenty of ways you can incorporate shades of yellow in your wedding cocktails .
A French 75 gives your champagne toast a yellow uplift by combining gin , champagne , lemon juice , and sugar , or go for something brighter by choosing a cocktail with a passion fruit base like a Pornstar Martini or passion fruit Daiquiri .
GREEN SCENE No , we ’ re not talking about the subtle green reflection of an olive atop a martini - the green cocktails that are taking centre stage this season are bright and bold . For a refreshing and zesty drink that ’ s sure to be a crowd pleaser , try a Midori Sour . Originating from Japan , this cocktail combines Midori liqueur which is melon flavoured , with vodka , fresh citrus , and a splash of seltzer . It ’ s a simple sipper that not only tastes great , but packs a punch with its bright green colour too .
SOMETHING BLUE The 80s called and they want their drinks back . Yes , aqua-hued cocktails are big news this year , with everything from Negronis to Margaritas seeing a turquoise takeover .
While blue cocktails suit any time of year , the vibrant azure aesthetic teams perfectly with the cool tones of a winter wedding .
Although you could use a blue liqueur , if you can , consider using Brilliant Blue FCF E133 , which is a blue food colouring and a favourite with bartenders as it doesn ’ t alter the cocktail ’ s flavour , it just adds a blue hue .
PURPLE REIGN Purple might not be the first colour you think of when it comes to cocktails , but these drinks will look gorgeous in a glass and vivid violet tones also look great at a winter wedding ; think regal opulence and jewel tones .
Opt to keep it classic by serving up an Aviation , a cocktail which has been around for more than a century and combines gin , maraschino liqueur and fresh lemon juice alongside crème de violette , or go for intense indigo with a Purple Rain - a blend of vodka , blue curaçao , lime juice , and a hint of grenadine , all mixed with soda water .
THINK PINK Gorgeous whether you ’ re toasting a hen do or sipping them on your wedding day , a pink cocktail looks sweet and stylish .
For something simple , consider the Pink Señorita - a twist on the classic margarita which swaps out lime juice for pink lemonade , giving the drink a pretty blush colour . Or , if you ’ re feeling a little fancier , try a Pink Lady - it combines gin , lemon juice , cane sugar syrup , grenadine and egg white to create a frothy , sweet treat .
