ASK THE EXPERTS : CAPTURE THE MOMENT

Planning a wedding can seem like an endless task , mainly because there ’ s a long list of aspects to consider and budget for . First , the venue , then the dress , suits , flowers , food , and not forgetting the entertainment ; all things that will make your big day that extra bit special . However , the most significant investment will be your photographer . Timeless , beautiful photographs will be the everlasting memory of your wedding day , an account of all those moments you want to relive again and again for years to come . But where do you start when it comes to the photographer crunchline ? Ashleigh Britten Photography gives her top things to consider when choosing the photographer for your big day .

BUDGET Cost is quite a significant factor when choosing the wedding photographer , but that said , it shouldn ’ t ever be the deciding factor in my opinion . Choosing a photographer based on the price tag won ’ t always leave you with images you love . While doing your research is important , deciding on a photographer you love before knowing their prices can sometimes end in heartbreak . I think it ’ s best to set a budget beforehand . Nowadays , wedding photographers generally have a price point between £ 1,500- £ 2,000 , so have a figure in mind before you begin your search . The most important thing to remember when choosing your photographer is that you are paying for quality , style and experience . Wedding photography is a luxury , but at the same time , it ’ s how you will remember your big day for years to come so it ’ s definitely worth doing your research .
STYLE All photographers have their own style - some have a more traditional , posed or unedited approach while others are more contemporary and have a reportage or documentary feel . I would recommend starting by looking through the photographer ’ s portfolio that you are considering ; that way , you ’ ll get a feel for how they work , their style and edit . If you feel an instant connection with the photographs , you may have just found the photographer for you .
PERSONALITY Getting to know your photographer is essential , and you will usually meet a few times before the big day . I am always keen to meet my couples and have a general catch-up about life ; sometimes , we ’ ll meet for dinner or go for coffee and cake . Having a connection between a couple and a photographer will put everyone at ease on the big day . I like to be regarded as a friend or guest at their wedding rather than just the ‘ wedding photographer ’.
RECOMMENDATIONS We always like to read testimonials , and a review can sway a couple ’ s decision when choosing wedding photographers . Generally , photographers will have reviews on their websites or social platforms . It ’ s also lovely to put pending couples in touch with previous couples I have photographed ; this gives them an insight into what it ’ s like to work with me . I recommend that couples always ask for testimonials ; the photographer should be more than happy to share them .
