YOUR CEREMONY OUR WEDDING

MEET THE REGISTRAR

PAULA MANKLOW IS A REGISTRAR AND CELEBRANT WHO GETS TO OFFICIALLY PRONOUNCE COUPLES AS MARRIED . SHE TELLS US ABOUT WHAT HER JOB ENTAILS
TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE : I am a registrar and celebrant for the Sevenoaks District and have been working in this role for seven years .
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BECOME A REGISTRAR ? I originally started working as an usher at The Mansion House , and I also promote Kent and Bexley wedding venues as part of another role I do within Kent County Council . Being a registrar and celebrant is something I love doing because you get to help couples , and be part of their special day . It is a privilege and very rewarding .
WHAT ’ S YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE JOB ? I enjoy all aspects of the role and every ceremony is special .
ARE THERE ANY WEDDINGS THAT ARE PARTICULARLY MEMORABLE TO YOU ? I remember being part of a surprise wedding , entering the venue through the back doors so as not to be seen .
Friends , family and the couple were seated at round tables , waiting for their meal to start . It was lovely to be able to stand and say , ‘ you have been invited to Brandshatch Place Hotel for a wedding ’.
The couple ’ s children did not know and they joked they would have made more of an effort to dress up . It was a strange way to start a wedding , having to ask for two witnesses , but a ceremony I will always remember .
IF YOU COULD OFFER ONE PIECE OF ADVICE TO COUPLES GETTING MARRIED , WHAT WOULD IT BE ? I would always say to the couple , remember to enjoy every moment .
