Allington Castle
In the 20th century , the castle was bought by William Waldorf Astor , who at the time was the richest man in America . He set about restoring the castle , including constructing the Astor Wing and creating the lake and gardens .
Whitstable Castle
ALLINGTON CASTLE Allington Castle is a medieval 12th century castle located near to Maidstone and set in 42 acres of woodland , with a picturesque moat and manicured lawns and fountains . As well as offering an intimate setting for weddings , it ’ s also a popular filming location and has been used as the setting for everything from period dramas to children ’ s TV shows .
Royal Connections : After the original Allington Castle building was torn down , it was rebuilt as a manor house with royal permission in the 13th century .
In 1492 the castle was bought by Sir Henry Wyatt , a prominent supporter of Henry Tudor , who was later to become King Henry VII . During his reign as King , Henry VII visited the castle many times , and other notable visits came from Cardinal Wolsey and Catherine Parr .
WHITSTABLE CASTLE Situated in the Kentish seaside town of Whitstable , the grand castle provides a wonderful wedding setting with its landscaped gardens , sweeping lawns and sea views , as well as its period reception rooms .
Royal Connections : Although Whitstable Castle was never a home for royals , throughout its history it ’ s seen many notable figures both residing and visiting .
Much of the grounds and building work can be attributed to Wynn Ellis , who owned the castle between 1835-1837 . He was married to Mary Maria Pearson , the great niece of politician Charles Pearson .
Wynn Ellis was a Liberal MP for Hertford , whose greatest rival in parliament was Robert Peel who later became prime minister .
