HOW SOON BEFORE MY WEDDING SHOULD I BOOK MY HAIR AND MAKEUP ARTISTS ? Booking your trials and wedding hair and makeup is usually a year prior - however this year we have had lots of bookings close to the day with shorter engagements trending .
WHY IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE A HAIR AND MAKEUP TRIAL ? Trials are highly recommended to ensure on the day you have confidence that you know what you will look and feel like , and also to make sure timings are correct . During the trial it is the time to experiment with different hair looks and play around with colour on the makeup . It is also good to have any veil and hair accessories to try these too .
SHOULD MY BRIDESMAIDS HAVE A TRIAL TOO ? Bridesmaids do not usually have trials - however , they certainly can , and this is a fun time for all . Each bridal party is different , but we ’ ve had trials with brides and their mums before , and recently we trialled hair and makeup for a bride , her mum and all six bridesmaids . They decided to make a day of it with lunch to follow .
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I CHANGE MY MIND AFTER MY TRIAL AND WANT SOMETHING DIFFERENT ? If a bride has a change of heart to her look that is no problem ; we can easily have another trial or if it ’ s just a small adjustment there may not be a need . Some brides may have had a hair up and down at the trial so it may be a case of switching the look . We always take photos , videos and keep notes from the trial so we can look back easily .
HOW SOON BEFORE MY WEDDING SHOULD I HAVE BEAUTY TREATMENTS LIKE NAILS , TANNING OR A HAIR CUT AND COLOUR ? We ’ d suggest getting a tan usually two days before , nails during the week leading up to the wedding , and hair colours and cuts ideally around one to two weeks before .
ON THE DAY , HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I ALLOW FOR HAIR AND MAKEUP FOR THE BRIDAL PARTY ? On the day we work to a time plan which is sent to you in advance and we ensure everyone stays on track during the prep for the big day . Typically we allow around 45 minutes per guest , bridesmaid or mum , depending on the look required . Brides are typically an hour , but again it varies on the look and the prep needed .
I ’ D LIKE TO CHANGE MY LOOK FROM DAY TO NIGHT - WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND ? Some brides have two looks for hair and makeup , and some even have two dresses . If this is the case , we would usually return to the venue to change the hair or add to the makeup .
A lovely berry lip to change the makeup look from day to evening works well and the bride could do this herself . When a bride wants to go from hair up to hair down , it ’ s possible for them to do it themselves , and we show them how to do this at the trial , whereas if you ’ re looking to go from hair down to hair up , a stylist would need to return to create the second look .
