Some other methods to spread publicity are to share different forms of media. The GJCL and NJCL historians in the past have created wonderful videos that show the spirit and soul of JCL. And in the end, chapters can win awards at state and national convention by documenting and presenting the different publicity campaigns and events that were held throughout the year. Publicity is a major part of JCL; without it, we wouldn’t grow. It is vital to keep in mind the words of the JCL creed: “We affirm the JCL experience develops responsibility, fosters brotherhood, promotes enthusiasm, encourages competition, inspires dedication and enriches our total growth.”
ANNOUNCEMENT: Does your school do anything fun and exciting that really publicises JCL in your community? Is there one event unique to your school that keeps people coming back to JCL for more? Tell us what it is! Submit your ideas to be included in this guide at the link HERE.
MEMBERSHIP
There are two aspects of membership that need to be taken into account when running a local chapter of the JCL. A) Always grow. You want to start a new year with more members than you had the previous year. This can be achieved by effective communicating and publicizing. And B) Making sure you are recognized as a member of both the Georgia and the National Junior Classical League. For purposes of this document, part B will be discussed more thoroughly. Before applying for either, a sponsor must register as a member of the American Classical League and pay dues of 55$ a year to be a part of that organization. A sponsor who is not a member of the ACL must do so immediately or the local chapter will not be recognized as an official delegation. For more information on how to join the ACL, please look here.
Applying for Official State Membership
Once a chapter officially has a sponsor who is a member of the American Classical League, a chapter is required to pay dues in order to be an affiliate of the GJCL and NJCL. The price of dues is determined based on a sliding rate that is determined by the NJCL as well as the GJCL State Committee. Below are the prices for which one is able to register for NJCL and GJCL affiliation.
Chapters registering by November 15th (postmarked) pay no chapter dues.
Chapters registering after November 15th (postmarked) but by January 20th (postmarked) pay $20.00 ($10.00 state and $10.00 national dues).
Chapters registering after January 20th (postmarked) but by June 20th pay $40.00 ($20.00 state and $20.00 national dues).
More information can be found by contacting Randy Fields as well as checking the membership portion of the GJCL website for specific information.
Applying for Official National Membership
Once your sponsor is a member of the ACL, chapters are still required to pay dues to affiliate with the NJCL. Below are the sliding dates for the NJCL.
Chapters registering before December 1st pay no chapter fees
Chapters registering after December 1st but before April 1st pay $10
Chapters registering between April 1st and July 1st pay $20
More information regarding National Membership can be found on the NJCL Membership page
It is my recommendation to register for both in accordance with the GJCL guidelines in order to pay a smaller fee, if any fee.
