PNLT Securing Affordability + Diversity
In A Rapidly Changing Neighbourhood
Joshua Barndt
PARKDALE NEIGHBOURHOOD LAND TRUST
Parkdale is changing rapidly. This change is not inherently
good or bad, but it raises important questions about affordability, diversity, and community assets in Parkdale. How can
we ensure that everyone, particularly those with fewer resources and lower income, benefit from these changes? Parkdale
Neighbourhood Land Trust (pnlt) was formed to build a
community land trust to address that question. Through the
community land trust model, pnlt will acquire land and use
it to meet the needs of Parkdale by leasing it to non-profit
partners who can provide affordable housing, furnish spaces
for social enterprises and non-profit organizations, and offer
urban agriculture and open space.
Block that Policy

This Jane’s Walk looked at how old buildings are being re-purposed and saved while others are re-thought. We examined
what worked, what didn’t and what the city’s heritage policy
blocked and unblocked… on the block!
