A Field Guide to Tactical Heritage Urbanism Volume 1: October 2016 | Page 9
Why This Field Guide?
The Canadian National Committee of the International
Council of Monuments and Sites (icomos Canada) is
seeking to broaden our collective understanding of
“heritage” in order to develop stronger models of citizen
participation in the decision-making and management
processes of our cultural environment. When multiple
perspectives are shared and respected, heritage can
act as a source of social cohesion and facilitate mutual
understanding.
In conjunction with ERA Architects and a multitude of
partner organizations, icomos Canada organized a
one-day event to examine contemporary approaches to
heritage from the model of Jane’s Walk to the European
Union’s Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural
Heritage for Society (Faro Convention).
This booklet is a record of the discussions
initiated at this event, and should be used as a
resource for us to continue the conversation.
