The importance of the Faro Convention is that it focuses
on the value of cultural heritage in creating cohesive
societies; the need for more democratic participation
in preserving cultural heritage; and the need to leverage
cultural heritage in improving the living environment
and overall quality of life of people. It promotes the shift
towards a more holistic approach that recognizes the
intangible aspects of heritage.
