Book Review By: Shanekwa Jones Race and Crime by Shaun L Gibbidon helped me realize that race in a big factor in identifying crime. Mostly African Americas commit crimes and Hispanics are in second place. Beyond that, it also explains that for African Americans and Hispanics it’s harder for finding jobs. Not because of background checks showing that they once committed a crime but because of the fact that they are indeed African American or Hispanic. Many answers to questions those of who deal with law may ask on several occasions are answered with facts and actual proven studies. “Montagu referred to race as “mans” most dangerous myth”, while Levi-Stauss called it “the original sin of anthropology”. Although many persuasive arguments have been made race remains a problem. In the chapter of Extent of crime and victimizations, Adult physical assault and rape in six Native American tribes are represented. Among women, 45% reported being physically assaulted and 14% were raped since age of 18 years. For men, figures were 36% and 2% respectively. Among men, only childhood maltreatment and lifetime alcohol dependence predicted being physically assaulted. Tribal differences existed in rates of physical assault with both sex and rap with women only.
