the European consensus on development
The first European
Commission was ini-
tially established in
1951 and was intend-
ed to promote the general interest of the European Union.
Amongst their policies is the European Consensus on
Development which is a shared vision and framework for
action for development cooperation for the European Un-
ion (EU) and its Member States in keeping with the 2030
Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The focus points of the 2030 Agenda include people, plan-
et, prosperity, peace, and partnership. In citing a primary
objective as Poverty eradication, the intent is also to
“integrate the economic, social and environmental dimen-
sions of sustainable development.” With Global order being a success indicator cross cutting elements will highlight as
cited “youth; gender equality; mobility and migration; sustainable energy and climate change; investment and trade;
good governance, democracy, the rule of law and human rights; innovative engagement with more advanced develop-
ing countries and mobilizing and using domestic resources. Implementation will require a coordinated EU and Member
States approach to development intended to promote joint programming and joint actions and better partnerships with all
stakeholders and partner countries. For more do visit https://ec.europa.eu/europeaid/policies/european-development-policy/
