Seminar 1:
Tomorrow’s World:
What Will the Future Hold in Coach Education?
Speakers: Jacki Sherwood (British Cycling), Jay Sriskanthan (Cisco), Anne Baker and Rachel Hooper (sports coach UK)
Beginning in 1965, the BBC’s flagship science programme
‘Tomorrow’s World’ ran for nearly 40 years. Its mix of quirky film
reports and live experiments examined the changing state of
current technology and put new inventions to the test. A lot of
what they predicted turned out to be the reality of our everyday
21st century lives.
Jay will talk through how managed risks can lead to fundamental
shifts in the way people learn, and how predicting the future of
learning can change the face of traditional coach education.
This session focuses on what you can learn from the evolution of
coach education to the present day, and how you can predict the
future to create the Tomorrow’s World of coach education.
Jacki Sherwood will show you how British Cycling has taken
managed risks as an organisation to change the face of its coach
education programmes. She will bring an insight into the work at
British Cycling and how this can be applied across sport. Jacki will
also talk about the practical considerations and methodology that
British Cycling used to create its latest resources
Coaching is central to how you deliver sport, and if you focus on
the next generation of learners, they too will inspire the following
generation of participants (cyclical improvement).
As a delegate, you will be asked to reflect on what your
expectations are for the learners of the future and engage in
predicting the future of coach education in sport.
Predicting the future can lead to mistakes, but it can also result in
game changers in coach education. The session will be introduced
by Anne Baker and Rachel Hooper looking at offering learners
a varied and easy-to-digest menu for coach education through
a variety of methods of delivery. They will show how modern
technology can enhance the learning experiences you offer to
the coaches of the future.
Inspiring coaches are the key to recruiting and retaining
individuals in sport, but we need to provide them with inspiring
coach education opportunities to continue to develop. Providing
a balanced diet of coach education that is easily digestible means
that qualifications, training and experiences will enable coaches to
inspire participants of all ages and abilities across an increasingly
diverse range of sports.
Recognising that, within sport, we can learn a lot from
business, we will be privileged to hear from Cisco, the global
game-changing technology company at the cutting edge of
modern learning, sought by top businesses across the world to
educate and train staff. Jay Sriskanthan – Senior Learning and
Development Consultant – will show you how technology has
changed the face of learning within a global business. You will hear
how technology can also be used to engage learners to take
ownership of their own personal development.
You should come with a smartphone, able to access the web,
Instagram and apps, and a willingness to look beyond the current
face of coach education to the Tomorrow’s World experience for
the learners of the future.
