Recommendations on using
licensed coaches
Are there any coaching programmes or
environments where the use of
licensed coaches is recommended?
A licence is linked to insurance coverage to
operate in a specific role. We advise all our
coaches and leaders to undertake an official
UKA programme of training and complete the
required DBS or disclosure checks to generate
their licence.

UKA and the home countries do not employ
unlicensed coaches or recruit them to team
staff. To gain coach accreditation for events,
coaches must provide the required UKA licence
to gain access.
We recommend to each athletics facility that
they ask for and retain a copy of the licence for
their own records. Furthermore, we
recommend that coaches show their licence on
entry to these facilities.

Any coach planning to work in a school
environment should present their licence to the
appointed person within the school for
inspection.
