Protocol REMINDERS
1 . Wear appropriate Alpha Kappa Alpha business attire ( not business casual ) unless noted otherwise . 2 . Wear comfortable shoes to business meetings . Flipflops , house shoes and sneakers are never appropriate unless designated by a physician for medical reasons .
3 . Make arrangements for childcare and guests when attending business meetings as these meetings are for sorors only .
4 . Wear delegate identification and arrive early for proper seating .
5 . Stand when the Regional Director , Supreme Basileus and Former Supreme Basilei enter the room .
6 . Stand when the Regional Director , Supreme Basileus , Former Supreme Basilei and Former Regional Directors are introduced .
7 . Refrain from walking during introductions of dais guests and program participants , the meditation or while the Regional Director or Supreme Basileus is giving her address to the delegation . 8 . Respect designated seating sections . Special seating will be available for Former Directorate Members , Former Executive Directors , Diamond , Pearl and Golden Sorors , physically challenged Sorors , musicians , Very Special Guests ( VSG ) not seated on the dais and delegates . 9 . Keep empty seats open . Sorors should not hold seats . Seating will be available for all sorors on a first-come , first-served basis . Holding seats at any function is unacceptable . Philacters and hostesses will assist in locating available seating .
10 . Please wait to be recognized by the presiding officer . Address the presiding officer as Madam Regional Director or Madam Supreme Basileus .
11 . Address the delegation by clearly stating your name , chapter , chapter location , and whether you are a delegate or non-delegate . The term voting delegate is inappropriate .
12 . Silence all electronic communication devices that will interrupt the meeting .
13 . Select a table hostess at meal functions who will help keep talking to a minimum while speakers and performers are at the microphone .
14 . Do not remove centerpieces or decorations from events .
15 . Sorors should refrain from using recording devices , audio devices or cameras at any business / plenary session , workshop , forum , committee meeting or any closed Sorority events .
16 . Tipping is expected for food servers , hotel room attendants , valet parking attendants , airport baggage handlers , and transportation drivers . Acceptable tipping is 15 % to 20 %.
17 . All Covid-19 guidelines must be adhered to by all participants and attendees .
18 . Please remove all lanyards and name badges prior to taking photos .
19 . Respect all hotel and conference venue staff members . Refrain from all demeaning language and actions that would diminish the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority , Incorporated ® brand .
