Winnetka Village

WINNETKA

Winnetka, 16 miles from the Loop, has established a reputation as one of the most desirable communities in the greater Chicago area. Its stately homes, unique shopping areas, excellent school districts and numerous recreation choices add to its appeal. Many of Winnetka’ s small businesses are clustered in one of three major shopping areas, which resemble Tudor villages. There are antique stores, book stores, grocers, specialty food stores, gift shops and a variety of professional offices situated within these areas.

HOUSING The Winnetka real estate is architecturally diverse, featuring homes designed by distinguished architects including George Maher, Howard Van Doren Shaw, David Adler, and Tony Grunsfeld. Red brick colonials, tudors, Nantucket colonials and Victorians are mixed in with new construction contemporaries and mansions. There is something for everyone in this story-book community.
LIFESTYLE The village has an extensive Park District Program and park system, recreation facilities and programs. Residents have their choice of three well-maintained beaches, including Tower Beach, Elder Beach, Lloyd Beach and Centennial Beach( dog beach). The Lloyd Place Beach also has a launching ramp for boats. The A. C. Nielsen Tennis Center, Winnetka Public Golf course and the Winnetka Ice Arena are also available for the enjoyment of residents.
SCHOOLS Elementary school children attend Crow Island, Hubbard Woods or Greeley for K-4th, Skokie for 5th-6th, and Carleton Washburne for 7th-8th grades. There are also pockets of the community that feed into the Avoca School District. High school students attend New Trier High School in District 203. Freshmen go to the Northfield Campus, and Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors attend the Winnetka Campus.
