When I enter, the aroma of the sizzling Korean barbecue slams my nostrils. It has the scent of marinated onions and garlic. There are always unique options, including vanilla cream and jam-filled pastries, steaming seafood jjamppong, and even brown-sugar-coated corn dogs. The line is often quite long, but the wait is always worth it.
When my father’ s side immigrated to the United States, H Mart allowed them to continue cherishing the tastes of their previous home. Although it is a boiling pot of different East-Asian products, the majority of them are Korean, as it was founded by a family of Korean immigrants. This supermarket helped smooth the transition for countless families.
H Mart has also contributed to spreading awareness of Korean culture in America, rising in popularity due to the surge in Korean pop culture. Whether looking for honey-glazed Korean fried chicken or shaved ice topped with honeydew, there are always people streaming into H Mart to experience new tastes or to stay connected to their own ethnicity.
