Noor Abd Ali paints surreal figures , objects and landscapes . Her painting “ QUESTIONING A QUESTION ” shows her in the middle of Sinek neighbourhood . It is a men-dominated environment , with small shops offering car replacements and tools , with many day-workers , ordinary people . She had to pass this area every day because of her work in the Iraqi Independent Film Centre . Every day she got faced by men she does not know with the question in a rude tone : “ Why are you here ?”.
She is of a reserve and polite nature , who does not harm anybody and anything . We see her in the centre of the painting appearing in purple colour . In its origins , the color purple stood for humility , virtue and penance . For her the colour purple is an expression for her innocent . The surrounded objects symbolize the men who are asking her a question . They appear in the colour of red to underline the aggressivity of the question : “ What is a woman doing in an area full of men ?”. Noor Abd Ali is questioning a question .
” QUESTION “ QUESTIONING A نور عبد علي ترسم أشكالاً سريالية وأجساماً ومناظر طبيعية . لوحتها تتضمن نفسها في وسط منطقة السنك . إنها بيئة يهيمن عليها الرجال ، مع وجود محلات صغيرة تبيع قطع غيار للسيارات والأدوات ، مع العديد من العمال اليومين والأشخاص العاديين . كان عليها أن تمر في هذه المنطقة كل يوم بسبب عملها في المركز العراقي للفلم المستقل . كل يوم كانت تواجه من قبل رجال لا .” تعرفهم بنبرة وقحة : ” لماذا أنتي هنا ؟
هي ذات طابع طبيعي ومهذب ، لا تؤذي أحدا ولا شيء . نراها في وسط اللوحة تظهر باللون البنفسجي . في أصوله ، كان اللون البنفسجي يرمز إلى التواضع والفضيلة والتكفير عن الذنب . اللون البنفسجي بالنسبة لها هو تعبير عن براءتها . الأشياء المحيطة لها ترمز إلى الرجال الذين يسألونها سؤالاً . يظهرون باللون الأحمر . للتأكيد على عدوانية السؤال : ” ماذا تفعل المرأة في منطقة مليئة بالرجال ؟“ نور عبد علي تسأل سؤالاً
