REFLECTIONS from the SISTERS of MERCY
Throughout the past 75 years , nearly every aspect of the GMercyU student experience has been envisioned and shaped by the Sisters of Mercy . We sat down with several of the Sisters who played a pivotal role in helping GMercyU evolve from a local junior college to a growing four-year college to the nationally ranked university it is today .

Not surprisingly , their stories reveal an enduring commitment to carrying forth the teachings of the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy , Catherine McAuley . Their stories also serve as a welcome reminder of the power of laughter , perseverance and an unwavering willingness to believe in one ’ s own ability to respond to the “ next great need ” — even when you have yet to discover how you ’ re going to do it . t ’ s fair to say that the legacy of the Sisters of Mercy
I permeates the air at GMercyU .
When you ask alumni from decades past what aspect of their time here made the greatest impact , they say , “ The Sisters .” When you hear about the many extraordinary ways GMercyU alumni are making a difference in their careers and communities , you know so much of that impact is guided by a Mercy mindset nurtured by “ The Sisters .”
“ I think that really resonates so much with our founding sisters ,” said Sister Cathe Shoulberg , RSM ’ 73 . “ They faced incredible obstacles all along the way , and yet here we are today … because of their willingness to just do it .”
