ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS
Endowed scholarships create a permanent source of annually renewable financial aid for students and strengthen GMercyU ’ s long-term financial stability . Donors help choose the preferred characteristics of a scholarship recipient , such as major and GPA . They can also choose who the scholarship honors ( it can be in someone ’ s memory ).
Alumna Christine Barrasso ’ 65 created the Antoni Malecki Endowed Scholarship for Medical Laboratory Science in memory of her late grandfather who helped fund her college education . Having once led the Department of Pathology at Johns Hopkins , Christine ’ s scholarship supports much needed future medical laboratory scientists .
“ The Sisters of Mercy took a chance on me and offered me a wonderful education that provided the basis for a successful career ,” said Christine . “ The experience , both academically and personally , I gained from a Gwynedd Mercy education inspired me to include the University in part of my estate plan so that future generations of students can continue to experience an outstanding education through Mercy values .”
