I was lucky to have many supporters when I was a student-athlete at GMercyU , from my teammates and classmates to my coaches . Being a student-athlete isn ’ t easy . Anyone will tell you that ! The most rewarding part of my job is seeing a student I ’ ve helped grow , become successful and gain confidence . To be able to do this at the place where I completed my degree and athletic career is a feeling I can ’ t even begin to describe .

HALL OF FAME

Established in 2011 , the Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have contributed to the growth and success of athletics at GMercyU . Hall of Fame honorees have performed with distinction and have been instrumental in the development and success of Griffin athletics .

Maria McHugh was the Athletic Director at Gwynedd-Mercy College ( GMC ) for more than 30 years and was in the first class of inductees . McHugh was pivotal in transforming the athletic department into what it is today . From 1992 to 1993 , McHugh spearheaded GMC ’ s membership in the PAC . She repeated the process from 1994 to 1995 to gain membership in the NCAA . In addition to these initiatives , McHugh served as a driving force in building The Griffin Complex and oversaw the addition of men ’ s basketball , soccer and tennis .

GMercyU ’ s mascot , M . E . R . V . the Griffin , debuted in 2005 and has evolved over the years . M . E . R . V . stands for Mercy Education , Rigorous intellect and Valuing diversity .
