HOME AWAY from HOME RESIDENT LIFE on CAMPUS
G
MercyU is proudly commuter friendly , though a significant number of students choose to live on campus , making memories in our residence halls that last a lifetime .
In 1953 , the Sisters of Mercy purchased a summer residence called the Maryllyn House that was located a short distance from campus to use as the college ’ s first student dormitory . Students also lived in Assumption Hall until Loyola Hall opened in 1965 as the first on-campus residence hall .
Today , residents live in the “ Triplex ,” comprised of St . Brigid ’ s Hall , Siena Hall and Loyola Hall . After yearlong renovations , Loyola Hall reopened in fall 2023 with upgrades in every room , including air conditioning ,
microfridges , new furniture , floors and paint , and improved Wi-Fi and lounge areas throughout the building . What was preserved : the original , much-loved and spacious wardrobes and free laundry facilities .
NEW RULES FOR A NEW GENERATION
Today ’ s students probably would not embrace the rules set for earlier generations of students at Gwynedd-Mercy College , such as wearing heels to dinner , attending mass weekly and not having cars on campus . Life on campus has evolved with the times .
Michelle Murray , Director of Housing and Residence Life , has seen many changes since she began in 2010 as a residence director .
