How to Develop and Promote
Civic and Eco-Responsible
Responsibility?
Laura/France
The School has a special responsibility in the training of the
student as a person and future citizen. In a coeducation
approach, it does not stand it for the families, but it has the
task of transmitting to young people the fundamental values
and principles of each country
It allows students to acquire the ability to judge by
themselves and the feeling of belonging to society. It allows
students to develop in concrete situations of school life their
ability to live independently, to participate actively in
improving common life and to prepare for their commitment
as a citizen.
All subjects at school all disciplines contribute to the
development of civic skills
Thanks to networks, citizens can more easily give their
opinion, share their convictions and therefore participate in
their life as citizens.
Democracy During Pandemic
For European countries, the coronavirus pandemic means
primarily a public health crisis, a threat of economic collapse
and social destabilization. But there is a great risk that the
pandemic period will also be remembered as a bad time for
democracy, the rule of law and human rights, and thus for the
political cohesion of the Union. The EU is entering a crisis
poorly equipped to deal with threats to these values.
There is a concern that a pandemic may contribute to a
lowering of democracy standards and the rule of law in the EU.
For example, the prime minister of in Hungary Viktor Orban
took advantage of the state of emergency to grant himself the
possibility of exercising indefinite rule through decrees. He
also introduced a sentence of up to eight years in prison for
violating quarantine (for possible use against opposition or anti
-government demonstrators) and imposed severe fines for
disseminating false information about an epidemic threat.
The negative impact of the epidemic on democratic standards
can be seen in almost every EU country. There are discussions
almost everywhere whether the restrictions on civil rights and
freedoms are proportional and whether they will be lifted after
the epidemic has ended.
