Renewed commitment to the PRME

Message of support from the Vice-Chancellor

I am delighted to make an institutional commitment to support the Principles for Responsible Management Education ( PRME ) and to endorse this Sharing Information on Progress ( SIP ) report .
Keele University was born from a pioneering vision , one of a different kind of university . Established in 1949 by Lord Lindsay , the University ’ s founding aim was to produce graduates who not only had the technical and specialist knowledge to move society forward , but who understood the social and political landscape that drove this need .
Fast-forward almost 75 years and this original ethos remains at the core of the University ’ s mission , and our global network of over 100,000 alumni in 120 countries is creating positive impact across the world in a range of diverse careers .
At the core of the University ’ s mission is the vision for a more sustainable world , driven by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs ).
Sustainability is embedded in everything we do at Keele – from our campus operations to our research and education , and throughout all areas of the University , not exclusively in the Keele Business School . We ’ re proud to be one of the first UK universities to declare a ‘ climate emergency ’, as well as having ambitious targets to be carbon neutral by 2030 . Our Climate Action Framework Principles , launched in 2021 , outline our whole University approach to tackling the climate crisis .
Our commitment has meant that for the fourth consecutive year we have been placed among the Top 40 universities in the world for sustainability ( UI Green Metric World Rankings , 2020 ), in addition to being named Global Sustainability Institution of the Year ( International Green Gown Awards , 2021 ).
Our research seeks to improve lives and address the most pressing challenges across our region , country , and world . Our academics are actively studying matters of global importance : from food security , climate change and smart energy , to neglected tropical diseases , global health and sustainable futures .
Reimagining our founding principles from 1949 that set about to foster societal recovery and reinvention , we have created and delivered new “ Keele Deals ” that have generated £ 200m per year in the local economy , supported over 600 local businesses , and delivered a landmark health innovation plan with the NHS .
The mission , vision and renewed strategy of the Keele Business School strongly align to the SDGs and show commitment to continuous improvement to transform management education and develop the responsible decision-makers of tomorrow to advance sustainable development , as outlined throughout this report .
