By now you’ ve awoken from a long winters sleep, beckoned by the longer hours of daylight in the sky, the songs of birds filling your ears and the smell of a spring rain. Many of us have been bombarded with bulb and seed catalogs and some of us have begun the planning process for this year’ s gardening efforts. Others will wait until the last minute and rush to the local plant store. That you are gardening is what counts.
As for me, gardening is a deepening of roots and a branching out. It’ s a case of trying, experimenting and toiling. It’ s a personal

ing around plants. For the 55 plus gang, it allows each of us to become creative in our backyard landscaping with attractive containers to grow gorgeous plants or flowers without too much pain. Container gardening is raising plants, vegetables edible herbs or flowers on the ground, above the ground, on balconies or rooftops in compact containers and pots. This is a very flexible and convenient way of allowing you to move pots and planters to change your environment. A small container garden design is a nice idea for physically challenged

window sill, fire escape or roof top awaits you.
For those would-be gardeners that live in an apartment

makes over 1,000 plots available in more than 50 Community
Gardens. They support gardeners every step of
the way by providing seeds, water and dozens of classes
on gardening and culinary. For those who want to pay it
forward, think about a donation of land, equipment, cash

Gardening opportunities await us all. Finding what fits
your specific situation is your task. Container gardening
