There are great maps and directories listing all the
information which will enhance the visits. Usually the
hours are 10 or 11:00am to 5:00pm and in the summer
months some have extended hours. Glenora Wine
Cellars and Fox Run Vineyards both on Seneca Lake
are two of the vineyards open year round.

Finger Lake wineries produce many varieties but are
particularly known for Reislings both dry and sweet,
and the unique Ice Wine. Wine favorites are a very
subjective topic, but touring the vineyards will surely
reveal a variety suiting your taste!
The Hudson Valley wine area is in Capital Region’s
“backyard” and although the number of wineries is
small compared to the Finger Lakes, they are
tantalizingly close and can be visited easily in a day
trip! Orange County’s Brotherhood Winery is the oldest
continuously operating facility, dating back to 1839,
even weathering the disruption of Prohibition which
effectively closed most of the United States wineries.
Brotherhood is one of the largest producers of wine and
is open year round with a tasting room and café. One
of its unique visitor events is the grape stomping held
on harvest weekends in September and October!

The closest winery to Albany is Rensselaer County’s
Brookview Station Winery located at Goold Orchard.
The mission of this winery is to use fruits and grapes
from their own fields and others they purchase from
surrounding Hudson Valley farms. Tours are not
available, but they offer a tasting room. This winery
opened 10 years ago and has matured to a very
worthwhile destination. True to their fruit orchard
origins, two fine examples of Brookview Station wines
are a semi dry apple and pear wine.
