50 Years of Art Making & Ideas in Art
Established in 1966, Anderson Ranch grew alongside the blossoming ski industry. In 1979, the five acres
upon which the Ranch rests were deeded to the organization, allowing for the expansion and development of
facilities, equipment and staff. Old buildings were refurbished—including the Long Studio, a barn constructed
in the mid-1800s—and new studios and galleries were built.
Each summer, over 1,200 artists in all stages of their careers come from near and far to take workshops
at the Ranch. Disciplines include ceramics, furniture design, painting and drawing, photography and new
media, printmaking, sculpture, woodworking, woodturning, digital fabrication and programs for teens and
children. Students and the general public attend the Summer Series: Featured Artists & Conversations,
weekly Guest Faculty Lectures and Lunchtime Auctionettes. The Ranch hosts Artists-in-Residence, Visiting
Artists and Visiting Critics throughout the year. Destination Workshops are offered in incredible locations
such as San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and the north coast of Jamaica for artists who want to explore a
new culture while advancing their work.
For 50 years, Anderson Ranch has served as a pillar of excellence, offering artists of all levels the
opportunity to discover, develop and stretch their creative spirits in one of the most beautiful places in
the world.
