What kind of design do you specialise in?
I am a singer but I design many different set/props, costumes/ background videos and opening videos for my performances.
What does being a designer mean to you?
It means that I can express myself through my art and be whoever I want to be while on stage. It gives me a sense of freedom.
What do you feel are the troubles with being a student designer?
I feel the troubles are usually financial as it is hard to save money while studying and spending money on my performances as well. This sometimes can be a good thing though because with these limitations it helps me use my imagination and make things from different materials and in different creative ways.
Do you have an ideology as a student musician?
My art usually revolves around the music/song that I am singing. I also like to put a theme to my performances which usuaslly reflect the music.
Do you feel you have enough or any avenues for exposure as a student musician?
Not at the moment as most of my performances have been at uni and I don’t really know where I can do these type of performances our in the public/different venues. I am always looking though and I just need to work on getting myself out there.
Who are you inspired by?
I am inspired by many different artists in pop culture today and in history. I love watching performances by Kanye West and Lady Gaga as they are always very well thought out and artistic. I also am inspired by Michael Jackson, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, David Bowie, Rihanna and the list goes on.
I am inspired every day by different things I see and also movies that I watch because I am always looking for new inspiration to draw upon and re-create for a performance.
What keeps you going in terms of motivation?
Just the willingness to succeed and hopefully performing for the world to see in the future.
