8. DR. HELEN RODRIGUEZ-TRIAS AWARD Named for the Latina Pediatrician who was the first president of the American Public Health Association. She was an advocate for social justice for underserved and disadvantaged populations, especially children and women. The award is presented to the graduating students who exemplify Dr. Rodriguez-Trias’ commitment to social justice in Pediatrics or Women’ s Health.
9. DR. THEODORE Q. MILLER PEER ADVOCACY AWARD This award is named for the former Medical Student Affairs Dean, who was an outstanding mentor and advisor to medical students. This award is presented to the graduating student who has advocated for their classmates throughout their medical school careers and demonstrated outstanding leadership.( For example, class officers, medical student council representatives, SNMA or LMSA student leaders, etc.)
10. DEAN’ S AWARD OF EXCELLENCE This award is presented to the student who has excelled academically throughout their medical school career.
11. DEAN’ S HUMANISM IN MEDICINE AWARD This award is presented to the student who best demonstrates the ideals of outstanding compassion in the delivery of care, respect for patients, their families, and healthcare colleagues, as well as demonstrated clinical excellence.
12. DR. DELFORD WILLIAMS III SURGERY AWARD This award is named for the former Surgery Clerkship Director that provided excellent mentorship to medical students interested in surgical specialties. This award is presented to the graduating student who has excelled academically in surgery.
13. DR. JOANNE WILLIAMS EMERGENCY MEDICINE AWARD This award is presented to the graduating student who has demonstrated academic excellence in the field of Emergency Medicine.
