Also known as
Dasyprocta antillensis,
the Red-rumped Agouti
is a member of the rodent family and
can only be found in Saint Lucia.
They are said to be scarce on the island
and were declared a protected species
in 1980. These rodents are not often
seen and are found in some of the more

THE SAINT LUCIA
WHIPTAIL LIZARD IS
ENDEMIC TO SAINT
LUCIA
36
Also known as the Zandoli
terre (Cnemidophorus
vanzo), the St. Lucia
Whiptail lizard was discovered in 1958 on
Maria Islands. It is the only place in the
world where it has been seen.
The Zandoli terre is right at home as it
even bears the colors of our national flag.
It has a bright yellow belly and bright
blue tail. Now how cool is that!
