regardless of the challenges she faces, or
how many times she’s fallen or falls — be it
politically or otherwise — she always rises

deep sense of national pride that I
greet you in this issue of Manmay
LaKay Magazine, your magazine. In this issue
you will find 40 fascinating facts about Saint
Lucia—her unparalleled beauty and history.
Ever since her discovery and gaining
Independence from Great Britain in 1979,
Mother Helen has seen numerous technological
and economical advancements.
But as the saying goes nothing worthwhile is
easy and there's no denying that the journey has
been paved with strife and laden with discord.
We’ve faced numerous challenges typical to a
developing nation but Mother Helen, Fair Helen,
the most beautiful isle in the West Indies is
resilient and remains steadfast in her pursuit of
a better economy and a better way of life for
her children.
We relish the opportunity to pay homage to
the late Sir The Honorable John George
Melvin Compton who led Saint Lucia to
Independence, all who were instrumental in
the pursuit of such a feat and those who’ve
helped her on the journey. We salute the
late Sir The Honorable Dunstan St. Omer,
the designer of our national symbol of
sovereignty — the flag.
Although we’ve come a long way, we
acknowledge that we still have far to go.
Today, Mother Helen is in her 40’s and if
what they say is true — that life begins at 40
— then without a shred of a doubt our Fair
Helen's outlook looms bright as she
journeys into the future.
May we join forces to build on and fulfill the
mission of our forefathers. May we join
forces to create a better more sustainable
Saint Lucia.
Manmay LaKay, may we dive ALL IN. may
we journey well. May we journey well into
the future with hope and optimism, with a
keen sense of pride and patriotism. May we
continue on our journey of Independence
with might and vigor and enthusiasm —
giving everything we’ve got — our time,
