Soka
Buddhists
in Singapore
Nearly 1.3 million Singaporeans identify themselves as Buddhist. This
is around 33% of the total resident population. Within this segment is a
group of devotees who practice Nichiren Buddhism. They are members
of the Singapore Soka Association.
Soka Buddhists are sincere and spiritually hungry in their pursuit of
‘human revolution’. Thousands gather together weekly to chant in
centers across Singapore. The chanting of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is
practiced by all devotees. Through this practice, they work toward inner
spiritual transformation and individual empowerment.
The Soka Buddhists believe this is the surest way towards creating
world peace and prosperity.
