Prayer walking is a great way to listen to God as we walk
through the community He has placed on our heart. All of our
senses become part of prayer as sights, smells and sounds
prompt our discussion with God.
As we walk and observe gathering points and people in our
community, we get fuel for our prayer and insight into how we
can meaningfully serve and contribute to our communities.
A prayer walk can also be a good first step when God calls you
to build a team. Prayer walking together can lead to long-term
partnerships in prayer and outreach through God’s prompting
as you pray.
There are many possible ways to structure a prayer walk. Below
is a simple example which can be adapted for your community.
Possible Flow for a Prayer Walk in 2 hours:
1 Briefing (approx 20 minutes)
Gather the group and discuss what they know about the area
you are about to walk through.
You could ask things like:
- Why do you want to prayer walk this area?
- Is there anything significant we need to know about this area
(spiritually, socially, historically or geographically) that will
help us pray?
- What has God been saying to you about this place?
Choose a relevant Scripture to read and use as a springboard
for prayer.
