FRIENDSHIP !
STEP 4 :
What do you want from this letter ? To be best friends again ? To have found peace and have zero beef in the school corridors ? To have re-instated unsupervised access to your sibling ’ s games console ? Now you can state your hopes for the future but be realistic – and accept that the person wronged will need to consider your letter before you can both move on .
STEP 5 :
Flattery . OK , this one is optional and not always recommended . But does it hurt to mention that this person is the best brother / kindest friend / has the best hair ?
STEP 6 :
Conclude your letter with your very best wishes . Sign off with a familiar nickname or private joke . This could be entering the realms of emotional blackmail by tugging on their heart strings a bit but honestly , life is too short . Apologise , make friends and be happy .
ALTERNATIVE STEP :
If a letter isn ’ t for you , could you consider writing a sorry limerick ?
There once was a girl named Molly , Who really struggled to say sorry , She gathered her thoughts , and wrote them down , of course , and simply said : Please accept my apology
or
There was a young man named Lori
Who totally could not say sorry
In the interest of healing
He wrote down his feeling
And that is the end of our story
