Northeast Elementary
Northeast Elementary is excited to start the
Barton Reading Program this year as a
reading intervention. The Barton Reading
Program is a one-on-one tutoring system
that will greatly improve the spelling,
reading, and writing skills of children who
struggle due to dyslexia or a learning
disability.
Over the past year several
teachers have been working
on their Masters in
Elementary Education. We
would like to congratulate
them on their completion of
their program!
We have entered our second year as a member of the Whole Arts Institute. We look forward to
the teaching artists that will visit us this year to help teachers implement new arts integrated material.
Several teachers attended the Whole School Institute this summer at The Riley Center where they
learned new arts integration strategies to incorporate in their daily lessons. We are also working on
creating several outdoor "biome gardens" across campus with the goal of increasing students',
teachers', and parents' awareness and experiences in all arts disciplines. We recently completed our first
permanent art exhibits on the school grounds. Two biome gardens were created. The first was a Polar
Biome garden featuring a landscape painting of the Northern Lights and a polar bear sculpture. The
polar garden was done in conjunction with a school wide science theme and was planned and
constructed by third and fourth grade students. The second garden was created by Mrs. Kerchavel and
Mrs. Pace's classes during the extended school year. These classes created the swamp biome. We are
excited to add a third art exhibit this year as we enter our second year in the Whole Schools Program
We would like to say thank you to
Northcrest church for the work they
did on our campus over the summer
during their Love Out Loud
mission program. We would also
like to thank NorthPark Church for
donating popsicles for each student.
The kids enjoyed the "cool" treat at
recess on a hot August day.
Northeast Elementary welcomes new
teachers to our staff.
