Amy Davis attends “Summer Institute Adds to Teachers’ Math Methods”
MISSISSSIPPI STATE -- Math teachers from across the state completed 80 hours of intensive math training during the month of June.
Amy Davis, a 4th-grade math teacher at West Lauderdale Elementary in Lauderdale County participated in the IMPACT2, In-depth Mathematical Practices and Content Teacher Training, Summer Institute.
Re-C Carter, IMPACT2 Project Director, from the Mississippi State University Extension Center for Technology Outreach organized the Summer Institute for professional development designed to help middle school teachers implement Common Core State Standards for Mathematics to increase math content
knowledge, utilize effective instructional practices needed for increasing student achievement, develop formative and summative assessments based on
research-based methods and build professional learning communities by creating teacher leaders.
“Hands-on instructional strategies, experts from NASA, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, Marilyn Zecher from the Multisensory Training Institute and master teachers from throughout Mississippi networking with peers offered the 30 educators in this year’s IMPACT2 program a
unique opportunity for professional growth,” said Sonya Smith, Project Coordinator for IMPACT2. “The Summer Institute is the kick-off and a highlight of an
11-month-long program.
