LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
4/4 NOV 2016 EDITION
CELEBRATING PACIFIC MUSIC & ARTS
This edition is an extra special one, as it marks the
completion of year one and the beginning of a new
year for our magazine. Giant yay for that! I want
to say a huge thank you to my collaborator Eric
Smith – I absolutely could not do this without his
support, creative design expertise and contribution
to everything. Thank you also to everyone we have
interviewed, for sharing your time and stories with us.
And to anyone that has taken time to check out 4/4 –
thank you so so much.
I have been very fortunate to spend my career
working with creative people, mostly songwriters
and music artists, which has given me the chance
to see into their worlds and their creative processes.
The time I have had to spend with so many amazing
creatives, has been such an honour and blessing for
me. This history has been such a great help with 4/4,
especially finding wonderful people to interview.
A year ago, we set out some goals for 4/4, confirming
that we wanted to provide positive profiles and
stories, which we hoped would be informative and
inspiring. We wanted to shine a light on Pacific
creatives and their work, sharing more about
4
their personal journey, their creative process, and
highlight their fantastic work. 4/4 would be our way
of supporting our Pacific creative community and
hopefully contributing some positivity to the world.
4/4 has been a new venture for me and has been a
great experience so far. We have such an amazing
Pacific creative community and it has been wonderful
to share stories about the great work they do. The
interviews and conversations for 4/4 have affirmed
my belief in the power of the arts – especially music –
and what it can do to enrich our lives.
This current edition involves another wonderful mix
of Pacific creatives. We feature Mal and Deahne
Lakatani and the wonderful work they do for creative
young people in our community, through their social
enterprise The Creative Souls Project. We also
profile music artists who have each recently released
their debut EPs: JSQZE, Tommy Nee and LaCoco.
We hope you enjoy this edition and thank you for
sharing the journey with us so far 44
