4/4 ARTIST PROFILE: EMILY & VEA MAFILE'O If there’s a will there’s a way For our feature interview, I spent time with the extremely talented and creative siblings Emily and Vea Mafile’o. They are full time freelancers and alongside their own art practice, together they have a Talavou Design, which includes event and set dressing, interior design and art directing work. They are also directors with Jeremiah Tauamiti for Malosi Pictures – their creative media group, specialising in Pacific video and stills photography. Both entities work with the Pacific Music Awards Trust, which has included dressing the venue for the awards ceremony since 2007 and creating the extremely popular video packages in the last couple of years. Emily and Vea have always worked together and they have developed a very strong and unique working relationship. Through their art, they are motivated to bring awareness and generate discussion. The reason behind their work is very important and is something that they will focus on. Their strong creative side is balanced with a 4/4 purposeful work ethic. What drives them is the motivation to get the job done – to complete their work. The interview itself is quite revealing of the sisters’ relationship – they would constantly finish each others sentences, cut each other off or even talk at vol 1 :3 Emily &Vea 11
