A Unique Moment From
Ranthambore
Sheshadri Vasan
T
iger, our national animal is arguably the most
charismatic of the big cats in the wild. It has
attracted people from almost every walk of
life in different ways, from the Raja Maharajas,
British viceroys, poachers, photographers,
conservationist, traders and so on. It surely is
the King of our jungles and is on the top of the
food chain.
However, the life of a Tiger in the wild is far from
easy. The struggle starts at the very stage of birth.
Only the stronger ones gets the attention and food
from the mother and the weaker ones perish. And
of course there are other challenges of dominant
opponents, habitat loss, natural calamities and
man-animal conflicts which makes it worse
for a Tiger to complete the life cycle.

Through this photo-story I wish to share a story of
one such Tiger cub from Ranthambore National
park of Rajasthan who has fought all odds in the
wild to make it to adulthood.
A quick sneak peak about Ranthambore. It is one
of my personal favourite national parks of India,
simple because of the diverse habitat and for the
large Tiger population. It offers a fine blend of wild
habitats with ancient architecture of the fort and
palaces. Its such a joy to sight a Tiger in this world
famous sanctuary.
This story is about a fighter, a cub of Tigress T-13
also called the Old Sultanpur female. And I would
like to call her “PARI” which means An Angel, in
Hindi.
