RED BULL ILLUME - IMAGE QUEST 2019
Red Bull Illume is the world’s greatest
adventure and action sports imagery
contest. It showcases the most
creative and captivating images on the
planet, while illuminating the passion,
lifestyle
and
culture
behind
the
photographers that shoot.
The Image Quest 2019 is the fifth
edition and evolves with two exciting new
categories; Best of Instagram by
SanDisk and the Moving Image category.
Submissions for Best of Instagram by
SanDisk are open from February 1 to
June 14, 2019 and will be judged by the
community every month, while entries for
the main contest are open from May 1 to
July 31, 2019.
A judging panel of 50 photo editors and
digital experts will select 55 Finalists, 11
Category Winners and 1 Overall Winner,
to be unveiled at the Winner Award
Ceremony in November 2019.
In 2020, all finalist images will
travel to capitals and cultural hubs on
three continents in parallel as part of the
Red Bull Illume Exhibit Tour, providing an
unprecedented level of exposure.
Official partners for the 2019 Image Quest
include Japanese consumer electronics
giant Sony, storage specialists SanDisk,
software developer Skylum, makers
of
the
artificial-intelligence-powered
Luminar 3 photo editing suite and COOPH,
photography apparel and accessories.
In 2016, a record-breaking 34,624 images
were submitted by 5,646 photographers
from 120 countries, with Lorenz Holder
crowned for the second consecutive time

as the overall winner.
HOW IT WORKS
The contest is ‘open submission’ and there
is no entry fee.
Any professional or amateur photo-
graphers from all over the world may
submit images.
Submissions for Best of Instagram by
SanDisk are open from February to June
2019. Images can be submitted via
Instagram by tagging @redbullillume and
#rbi19submission. There will be a
community vote every month selecting a
monthly winner, which will automatically
become a finalist image of the overall
Image Quest 2019.
Submissions for the main contest are open
for three months from May 1 until July
31, 2019. Once entries close, a judging
panel of 50 renowned photo editors and
digital experts will select the 55 finalists,
including 11 Category Winners and 1
Overall Winner. They will be unveiled at
a one of a kind signature Winner Award
Ceremony in November 2019. In 2020,
the 55 finalist images will travel to world
capitals and cultural hubs as a
unique, standalone indoor and outdoor
exhibition.
50 PHOTO EDITORS AND DIGITAL
EXPERTS
A total of 50 world-renowned photo
editors and digital experts from interna-
tional publications in the news, photogra-
phy and sports industries will choose the
finalists – sorting through over tens of
thousands images to do so.
Each judge will vote in three rounds – first
