Trend Report Louis Vuitton collaborates with BMW The fashion-automotive collaboration seems to be a growing trend. From Tod’s special-edition Ferrari driver shoes to Hackett’s Aston Martin-branded line and Barbour’s upcoming collection for Land Rover, motoring enthusiasts can now nail their automotive preferences to their chests, shoes, or indeed bags. The French fashion house has created a range of carbon fibre luggage designed specifically to fit BMW’s new i8 hybrid sports car. When choosing a sports car, how do you ensure there’s enough space for your mini-break gear? Simple choose one which comes with its own custom-fitted luggage set, like the newly-launched BMW i8. The German manufacturer has enlisted heritage French fashion house Louis Vuitton to create four exclusive bags designed to fit snugly in the car’s interior. The i8 set comprises the large, handheld Weekender GM bag which sits in the car’s boot; a sleek garment bag for the parcel shelf; a rounded business case which follows the curves of the BMW’s back seat; and a smaller, soft Weekender PM which stacks neatly on top of the business case. All four bags feature the iconic Louis Vuitton Damier pattern in charcoal grey, and are adorned with leather luggage tags and the house’s signature padlock. The use of carbon fibre in the making of the bags is in keeping with the i8 itself, with BMW using the strong-yet-light composite material in the plug-in hybrid sports car. “This collaboration with BMW epitomizes our shared values of creativity, technological innovation and style,” said Patrick-Louis Vuitton, head of special orders at Louis Vuitton. “Our craftsmen have enjoyed the challenge of this very special project, using their ingenuity and attention to detail to create a truly made to measure set of luxury luggage. This is a pure expression of the art of travel.” LOUIS VUITTON: louisvuitton.com The automatically adjusting belt, yours for £25,000 This belt has two positions, tightening or loosening by exactly 35mm Iten’s ingenious buckle expands or contracts so that the gentleman wearer need not adjust the belt manually during a post-prandial period, thus evading embarrassment.
