Commendations on the momentous occasion of graduating from Charles R Drew University of Medicine and Science . We celebrate not only the end of your academic journey at CDU but also the beginning of a new chapter in your lives .
As we gather to honor the achievements of our graduates , we are reminded of the words of Dr . Martin Luther King Jr ., who said “ faith is taking the first step , even when you can ’ t see the entire staircase .” This quote is particularly relevant to the journey that this class has undertaken , as you all pursued your goal of becoming healthcare professionals , despite the many obstacles that lay before you .
Throughout your time at CDU , you have learned about the intricacies of your chosen professions , studied long hours , taken countless exams , and turned in numerous projects . Many of you have also experienced the joys and challenges of working with patients , families , and communities , while honing an ability to always keep a focus on health equity .
But perhaps the greatest lesson you have learned is the importance of faith . Not faith in a religious sense , although that may be part of it for some of you , but faith in yourself and your abilities . This is what will enable you to take each first step , even when you can ’ t see the staircase . It is what gives you the courage to pursue the vision of a world without health disparities , even when the road ahead is uncertain .
To all graduating students , as you go forth from this day , remember that your education is just the beginning . You will face many challenges and obstacles along the way , but if you have faith in yourselves , your abilities , and the knowledge you acquired here at CDU , you will be able to overcome them . As you continue to grow and learn after your time here , I have no doubt that you will make a difference in the lives of countless people .
So , on behalf of Charles R . Drew University of Medicine and Science , I want to congratulate each and every one of you on your accomplishment . We wish you all the best as you embark on this new journey , and we have faith that you will continue to make us proud .
