For the holiday season , Smokestack ’ s Gallery features Following Our Passion by local artists Pamela Hiatt and Rabecca Hennessey , on display through Dec . 17 . Hiatt is a representational oil painter specializing in still life and landscapes , both in studio and plein air . Hennessey is an impressionist oil painter whose focus is landscapes , still life , and portraits , both in studio and plein air . Beautiful art makes for unique gifts .

the two dimensional nature of painting to , the illusion of three dimensional space , and the ability of line to exist in both mindsets . “ My intent is to address expression of emotion and the spiritual in art . It is my belief that art can be a tool for us to experience and celebrate what connects us .” String Theory will be on display through December .
Esther ’ s Lounge and the Dubuque Area Arts Collective bring visual art to Lower Main Street this winter , hosting a two-artist show featuring the works of Isabel Mejia and Erica Wilson . Wilson ’ s work explores nature and the female form . She studied at the University of Iowa , and presently resides in Dubuque . Mejia studied at Iowa State University before returning to Dubuque to become a tattoo artist . She has also painted murals for local businesses . Mejia and Wilson utilize vibrant colors to express thematic unity across mediums , ranging from graphite and colored pencil to acrylic and gouache paint to digital art . John and Sara Oglesby , proprietors of 1 st & Main in downtown Dubuque , are proud to announce the opening of their new arts-themed bar , Esther ’ s Lounge . Live music will be provided by Addison Aronson . Cash bar will be available . •

Famous Dead Artist Series : Robert Capa

SUNDAY , DECEMBER 5 @ 1:30 PM DUBUQUE MUSEUM OF ART ( 701 LOCUST ST ) DuMA ’ s Famous Dead Artist Series brings cultural figures to life in a scripted Q & A format . Join actor Jared Baker as he plays Robert Capa on Sunday , Dec . 5 at 1:30 p . m . at the Dubuque Museum of Art .
Capa was a legendary war photographer and journalist who covered the Spanish Civil War , Israel ’ s struggle for independence , and the French Indochina War ; he was also present at Omaha Beach on D-Day .
