YANG HUI Class 4D1( 2012)
THANK YOU NOTE – CTSS: FROM WHERE WE PURSUE OUR DREAMS
One boy learns to assimilate into the Singaporean culture and make Singapore his Home.
It has been two years since we first arrived in Singapore. A batch of foreign students came to study in Singapore and created beautiful memories in Clementi Town Secondary School( CTSS). What we can never forget is the tremendous help given by the school teachers and the endless support given by our friends. This is the place where we met friends from all over the world. This is the place where we contemplated the meaning of life. This is our home where we constructed our ambitions, and for the past two years, this is our home.
When I first came to Singapore, I was still an ignorant boy, not knowing anything about Singapore. I spoke broken English. I wrote incomprehensible essays. I did not know how to face the challenges of the journey ahead. However, I never regretted my decision of coming to Singapore to study. This was because of the experiences that I had and the people that I have met. All the ups and downs inspired me to be strong, courageous and determined to face any obstacles in life. All the friendly people, my friends and my teachers made me feel that I was not struggling alone. My teachers and I have such a good relationship that I could speak to them with ease, as though they are my friends. With my friends, we shared our dreams, ambitions and beliefs. After two years, I felt that I had completely changed.
Thinking back on the rewarding experience that I have gained from making the decision of coming here, I really would like to thank our principal and the four senior teachers who had recruited me.
Being in CTSS left me with the knowledge that our teachers would not simply impart the knowledge to the students, but they would, instead, instill important life lessons that will be essential for the rest of our lives. Through their guidance, I have cultivated strength and a positive attitude towards life. In these two short years, I experienced how believing in our school’ s ASPIRe values( Adaptability, Self-discipline, Perseverance, Integrity and Respect) can provide me with the mental stamina to pull through to the O-level examination. What was even more amazing, was that there is not just one, but countless of these teachers in this school. Through conversation and communication, I learned a lot of values from my teachers.
I was involved in two special programmes in CTSS: the Talent Development Programme for Mathematics and Science. These two programmes had provided me with a platform to develop my potential and talents. When recalling the activities I had when I was a student, the first thing that jumped to my mind was the ASPIRe camp, which really differentiated our school from others. Other events like the Sports Carnival, Musical, Graduation Ceremony and festival celebrations are also notable memories of my school days.
Finally, I would like to thank the school and the teachers. I really appreciate what they have done for us. It was indeed a very special experience for me. I had never dreamed of having such an amazing time before I came here. I will always say that CTSS is the best school in Singapore. This is true, because this is my home. I would like to end off with a quotation from my Mathematics teacher who is also an alumni of CTSS,“ Once a Clementeen, forever a Clementeen”.
I will forever be a Clementeen.
Yanghui graduated with 10 distinctions in the 2012 GCE O-level examination. He is now studying in National Junior College.
